Uganda, known as the Pearl of Africa is also the Primate Capital of East Africa. This amazing itinerary visits the Kibale Forest and Queen Elizabeth National Parks, famous for their chimpanzees, colubus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and other primates. Elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and other wildlife are also found in this area. Bwindi National Park is a highlight of this safari, providing the opportunity to meet gorillas in the wild. This 8-Night safari will prove to be a memorable experience!
Sample Group Itinerary
Day 1 - Depart USA
Depart the USA today and fly to Europe.
Day 2 - Arrive Kampala
Morning arrival in Europe, where we connect to flight bound for Entebbe. Evening arrival at Entebbe Airport, where you will be welcomed by a Parker Travel representative and transferred to your hotel for overnight. Kampala Sheraton Hotel.
Day 3 - Kampala - Kibale Forest National Park. After breakfast, we will depart Kampala and head west to Fort Portal, with a box lunch en route. Fort Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled “Mountains of the Moon,” and is famous for its many tea plantations. From this lovely town we'll continue to Kibale National Park, while passing the region of the Crater Lakes. Here we will explore some small lakes, before heading to our accommodations for the next two nights. Dinner and overnight at the deluxe safari tents of Primate Lodge Kibale. Primate Lodge Kibale. Day 4 - Kibale Forest and Bigodi Swamp
Today the forest opens its doors for a sensational chimp tracking. Kibale Forest is reputed to have the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa. Enjoy a guided nature walk in the tropical rainforest in search of the wild chimpanzee, red-tailed monkey, black-and-white colobus monkey and many others. After a hearty lunch we transfer to the Bigodi Swamp for another, totally different nature walk. The Bigodi Swamp Walk is an initiative of the local community and is known for its rich diversity of birds (over 200 species) and several primates. Dinner and overnight at our lodge. Day 5 - Kibale Forest to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast we take a leisurely drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. We'll have lunch, and time to relax at the pool, before going on our first game drive in search of wildlife, including warthogs, buffaloes, waterbucks and elephants. Dinner and overnight. Mweya Safari Lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 6 - Queen Elizabeth National Park
The day begins early as we start with a morning game drive, and head to the mating grounds of the Uganda Kobs. We search for lions, elephants, buffaloes and other wild animals in their natural habitat before returning for lunch. In the afternoon we take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural channel between Lake Edward and Lake George. Thanks to the abundant birdlife in the area, and the elephants, buffaloes and hundreds of hippos that are cooling off on the shores, this cruise will definitely be one of the highlights of your safari. Day 7 - Queen Elizabeth National Park to Bwindi National Park
After breakfast we head south, passing throught the southern sector of the national park (if road conditions allow). This area is called Ishasha and is famous for the tree climbing lions. After a short game drive in this area we continue to Bwindi. While driving through a verdant countryside, we will pass traditional homesteads, and enjoy panoramic views. In the afternoon we arrive at Bwindi National Park, home of the endangered mountain gorillas. Dinner and overnight. Mahogany Springs Lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 8 - Bwindi National Park (Gorilla Tracking)
The highlight of your safari: a meeting with the gentle giants of Bwindi! In particular, hikers will love the tracking in the beautiful ecosystem of the park. Expect to walk a long distance in steep and muddy conditions, sometimes with rain overhead, before you encounter any gorillas. But it will definitely be worthwhile as you observe them closely while they eat, play and rest. A unique and unforgettable experience! Dinner and overnight. Mahogany Springs Lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 9 - Bwindi National Park to Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast we depart the impenetrable forest of Bwindi and head to Lake Mburo National Park. As we enter the Park, it is likely that we will spot some wildlife. After checking in at our lodge, we'll take a boat ride on the lake to enjoy the rich bird life and the many hippos that are cooling off. Dinner and overnight. Mihingo Lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 10 - Lake Mburo National Park to Kampala - Depart Uganda
An early start is planned for today as we'll go for a nature walk guided by a ranger. Lake Mburo is the only national park in Uganda where you can experience a safari on foot. Return the lodge for breakfast. Then we embark on a game drive on our way out of the protected area, and then continue back to Kampala. Arrival in the afternoon where day rooms will be provided until our transfer to the airport for departure. Day 11 - Arrive USA
After an overnight flight, we arrive in Europe this morning, and tranfer to connecting flights back to the USA. Arrival home later today.
